Falkirk Wheel

This  is a genious masterpiece of engineering! I can only revere the simplicity and brilliance of it. The Falkirk Wheel is a rotating boat lift what helps to equal the 24 meters level difference between two canals. It can be found in Scotland and it opened its caissons in 2002 replacing the earlier 11 steps canal lock system. One turnover (180°) takes only 5  minutes but what it's even more magnificent is that during that time it consumes just 1.5 kilowatt-hours (5.4 MJ) of energy, roughly the same as boiling eight kettles of water.

Watch the wheel in operation, it's amazing!
